This is a great introduction to painting with underglazes. The Swimming Mangrove Crab (Thalamita crenata), a species distributed all over marine and brackish waters of the Indo-West Pacific regions. It is widely used as an edible crab in many countries.

What makes it a great species to paint is the fact that it has a myriad of colour variations. Students can pick and choose the attributes they like and learn all the techniques of using underglazes by painting this crab.
