Reef Triggerfish - Natural History & Ceramics Painting Masterclass - 31 October

$260.00
Sold

Please join us for an intimate and hands-on natural history and ceramics painting class where you will learn how to paint a Reef Triggerfish (Rhinecanthus rectangulus) with underglazes (ie the “paints” applied under the glaze).

This masterclass is part of our series where a marine biologist/ecologist will be in attendance and for this session we will be welcoming marine ecologist and PhD Candidate James Wong to our Coconut Crab studio again.

The Reef Triggerfish is one of the more iconic inhabitants of reefs in the central and western Pacific. They coast around shallow reefs and eat benthic invertebrates and algae.  Triggerfish are quite territorial, and many divers and snorkelers have a story of being chased by one. The species is also the state fish of Hawaii, where it's called the humuhumunukunukuapua'a, which translates to 'triggerfish with the snout of a pig'.

James is a PhD Candidate at the University of Newcastle and is studying the ecology of subtropical reef fishes at Norfolk Island. He has a Bachelor of Science majoring in Marine Science and completed an Honours with UoN studying foodweb dynamics of seagrass-associated fishes in Lake Macquarie. Jim loves loves all things fish and foodwebs!

Participants will be given one of Casa Adams signature medium platters bisqued, with the species already monoprinted and ready to be painted. During the class, Araceli will share all the tricks and techniques she has mastered over the 14 years + she has been making and painting ceramics. All materials, including tea/coffee and yummy biscuits from the local Greek patisserie are included. The platters will be glazed and fired in the studio and ready for collection approximately one week after. No previous experience needed!

Timings: 9am to 12pm

Location: The studio address will be given to confirmed participants closer to the date.

***If you’d like to paint the species on a dinner plate instead, there is an additional charge of $25. Just add this class to your cart and then add Dinner plate option for painting class to your cart as well.***
